In the hills above the White River the trees grow green and tall. The undergrowth is thick where the original settlers of the island had to cut and hack their way into the interior. Here, the sun has to force its way between the trees where long shadows form peaceful havens from the tropical heat.
Long ago a path was cut by farmers through these woods and now visitors can either hike or ride through the forest without all the cutting and hacking of yesteryear. The birds and timid insects create the soundtrack for scenes of wild vegetation like those of an old Tarzan flick or Pirate movie set in the Caribbean.
White River Valley is also known for farming and deep within the Cascade Rainforest lies our Orange Grove where sweet oranges are harvested. One of our Coconut Groves and our Lychee orchard skirt the borders of the forest. Despite the farming activity the area is only sometimes disturbed by the chatter of awed hikers or the lazy "clip clop" of trail horses.
